Angel Appreciation Day planned for October

FALLBROOK — Since its inception in 1978, the Angel Society of Fallbrook has raised upwards of $2.6 million for local charities and community projects largely through the operation of its volunteer-run thrift shop.

In recognition of its many volunteers and those organizations that have benefitted from their efforts, a special Angel Appreciation Day will be held on Saturday, October 17.

The event will start at 10 a.m. at the Angel Shop with a presentation led by newly elected President Gloria Seelye honoring the hundreds of volunteers whose efforts have made possible the organization’s longtime giving record.

Seelye also plans to acknowledge the group’s new “donor wall,” a space dedicated to individuals who have made contributions to the Angel Society ranging from $250 to more than $10,000.

Generous donations from past benefactors helped make it possible for the group to purchase in 2007 its permanent home at 1002 South Main Avenue, according to Seelye.

Honorees will also include Daniel Witzel of Troop 739, who recently spearheaded an Eagle Service Project to re-landscape the southeast corner of the Angel Shop and adjacent parking area.

The “large-in-scope” project, which was complete this summer, included replacing much of the existing irrigation plumbing, the construction of a brick wall and the planting of several boulders and beds of Nandina, Indian Hawthorn, box leaf euonymus and other drought-resistant species.

Refreshments will be served and entertainment will be provided at the event. The shop will also be open during its regular hours between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., offering for sale “gently used” clothing for men, women and children, household goods and other merchandise – even furniture – at the usual bargain prices.

Representatives from organizations that have received support from the Angel Society are invited to speak briefly at the event. Interested persons are urged to contact Virginia Stephens, Angel Appreciation chair, at (760) 728-2141.
