Intoxicated driver causes injuries in Stage Coach Lane pileup

A man driving under the influence caused a three-car collision on South Stage Coach Lane midmorning Tuesday, September 22.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Michael Villa, a 23-year-old from Murrieta, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt behind Young Kwong, a 48-year-old Fallbrook man, who was driving a 2004 Lexus LS430.

Both drivers had slowed down in order to let an unidentified vehicle ahead of them make a left turn when Scott Nelson, a 42-year-old Fallbrook resident driving a 1991 BMW 735i, slammed into Villa’s vehicle, which then rear-ended Kwong’s vehicle.

According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, Nelson was driving while under the influence and on a suspended license.

Kwong and Sheila Villa, Michael Villa’s 22-year-old passenger, were taken to Fallbrook Hospital with complaints of pain in their backs and necks.

Nelson was arrested and booked into Vista Detention Facility for felony driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.
