AAUW holds membership brunch

FALLBROOK — A delicious setting and a delectable champagne brunch was the feature of the Fallbrook branch of the American Association of University Women’s (AAUW) effort to gain new members for this dynamic organization.

High on a hill in Bonsall, the home of Grace VanderWerf and husband Phil was the venue for the first social of the new year of AAUW.

Membership chair Diane Gill was on hand to sign up new members, 11 in all. Longtime members, new members and prospective members were on hand to hear messages from the newly elected board members.

The achievements for the previous year were enumerated, such as the giving of $12,000 in scholarships awarded to local students, the TechTrek program that sends seventh grade girls to UCSD for a week for exploration in the sciences, technology and math and fundraising events to fund these programs.

Co-presidents Iris Bourque and Julie Norberg were on hand to award former board members with mementos for their accomplishments.

AAUW encourages members of the community to join this venerable organization that promotes equity for women and girls through education and advocacy.

To emphasize equity, men are invited to join and become acquainted with the other men already on the roster.

For membership information, contact Diane Gill at (760) 414-1957.
