Back-to-School Night marks first month of school

“Exhilarating, hilarious and fun” are the words freshman Genna Cowley chose to describe Fallbrook High School’s Back-to-School Night, which was held September 15.

Freshman Cheer captain Genna recalled, “Seeing parents walk around the school all confused about where classes are reminded me of how I felt on the first day of school.”

The first month of school has been busy and full of opportunities for all. Back-to-School Night helped students to reflect on their progress in the school year so far.

“Back-to-School Night brought back memories as I hung out and had fun with the ASB <Associated Student Body> kids like I did in junior high,” Genna recollected.

The event hopefully encouraged students to keep working toward attainable goals.

Genna’s reward for hard school work happened a few Saturdays ago. “My favorite experience of school so far would have to be the morP Dance! It was my first high school dance and I had a blast!”

The famed morP Dance allows students to be creative. Some might wonder, why in the world is this dance called morP? Well, “morP” is “Prom” spelled backward. Therefore, morP is the exact opposite of Prom. The students had fun in their crazy outfits and wild hair! Oasis students have the choice to participate in the dances.

When I attended the dance, I had the opportunity to meet the ASB director, Josh Way. Mr. Way was helpful and friendly.

Oasis students had an exuberant time at their own Back-to-School Night with a small and enthusiastic crowd. The staff reviewed with the students and parents the goals and accomplishments set for this year.

Oasis continues with the WASC (Western Association of School and Colleges) standards and has targeted goals that help reach higher expectations for the school and students.

I am excited for the new plans and the available courses. I am grateful for the support in the Fallbrook Union High School District for an independent study program like Oasis High School.
