Mayorga to present music of Chopin

TEMECULA — Lincoln Mayorga will present “Chopin & Candlelight: The Music of Frederic Chopin” on Sunday, October 18, at 3 p.m. in the Old Town Temecula Community Theater.

This will be a unique concert with a dramatic element that includes an interpretive reading of letters and diary entries of Chopin and George Sand, compiled by William Malloch and adapted by Leigh Kaplan, Mayorga and Nancy Rothman.

For many years, Mayorga enjoyed one of the busiest studio careers in Hollywood. He was the staff pianist for Walt Disney Studios and contributed to the soundtracks of such motion pictures as “Chinatown,” “Pete’s Dragon,” “The Competition,” “The Rose” and “Ragtime,” to name a few.

As pianist, arranger and conductor, Mayorga made many recordings with such artists as Johnny Mathis, Barbra Streisand, Marni Nixon, Vikki Carr, Mel Torme, Phil Ochs, Andy Williams, Frank Zappa and Quincy Jones.

“Chopin & Candlelight” is an evening of the piano music of Chopin centered around his Twenty-Six Preludes and illuminated by the correspondence of the composer and his lover, Sand, during their sojourn on the island of Majorca in the winter of 1838-1839. Actress Nancy Rothman will play Sand.

Tickets are $30 adult, $25 senior, $12.50 student/youth, $2.50 child under 12 accompanied by adult.
