Thanksgiving Walk/Run to feed the hungry Nov. 14

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Food Pantry has begun preparations for one of its most important fundraisers of the year: the Thanksgiving Walk/Run to Feed the Hungry. The event will be held this year on Saturday, November 14.

In 2006, the pantry started the tradition of asking community members to walk or run together, and find sponsors to donate money to support them, in an effort to raise funds to provide food for the needy in the Fallbrook, Rainbow, Bonsall and De Luz areas.

Each year groups from local organizations and individuals of all ages come together for this great event. Last year approximately 150 people participated, raising about $6,000 for the pantry.

Everyone can participate and help the community, either by walking and collecting donations from supporters or by supporting someone else to run or walk for them at the event.

Participants will receive sponsor forms in advance, which will be distributed through local churches, other community organizations and at the Fallbrook Food Pantry. Runners and walkers will then sign up their own sponsors.

Sponsor forms and collected donations will be turned in prior to the race, at 9 a.m. at the pantry. All entrants will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

Fallbrook’s Walk/Run will follow the same route as the Fallbrook CROP Walk, beginning at the pantry, 1042 South Mission Road, traveling north through town, circling on North Olive Avenue and returning to the pantry, where staffers will provide water, fresh fruit and rolls.

Additional details will be publicized in the coming weeks. For more information, call event organizer Jean Dooley at (760) 728-5682 or the Fallbrook Food Pantry at (760) 728-7608.
