Temecula Valley Master Chorale opens 10th season

TEMECULA — The Temecula Valley Master Chorale will present the first concert of their 10th anniversary season with “A Fall Gathering” Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25.

According to director John Byun, “This concert will feature an eclectic variety of choral music and composers.”

The first half will feature a range of music from serious choral literature such as Gabriel Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine to the not-so-serious “Of Crows and Clusters” by Norman Dello Joio.

“But don’t be fooled,” said Byun. “The music is all serious, in fact, very difficult at times. Just some of the text you will hear is of the lighthearted.”

The second half of the concert will conclude with the beautiful Liebeslieder Waltzer (Love Song Waltzes) by Johannes Brahms. This work features 18 short songs that depict the joy and rapture of love and all texts chosen from Daumer’s “Polydora.”

The singers will be accompanied by piano four-hands Wendi Turk and Joyce Braley. Winners from the Chorale’s 2008-2009 youth vocal competition will also be featured.

Dates and times for the concert are October 24 at 4 p.m. and October 25 at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 31143 Nicolas Road, Temecula.

Tickets may be purchased at the door, by calling the chorale office at (951) 302-1652 or at http://www.temeculavalleymasterchorale.org.
