Woman's Club supports Fallbrook Youth Prevention Group

FALLBROOK — Annette AuBuchon, president of the Fallbrook Woman’s Club, recently announced the President’s Project for her term of office (2009-2010) will be helping the youth of Fallbrook.

As part of that endeavor, Stephanie Ackroyd – student, supervisor and representative for the recently formed Fallbrook Youth Prevention Group (FYPG) – spoke at the October meeting.

Ackroyd explained that FYPG, a group of Fallbrook youth ranging from junior high school students to college-age young adults, has taken a stand against underage drinking and drug use in the community and the devastating consequences of such behavior.

Its members spend time developing awareness and preventive strategies. They support both the pledge taken by students not to drink or use drugs as well as the parent pledge not to serve alcohol to minors.

Recently, the caretaker’s cottage and wrought iron fencing at the Fallbrook Woman’s Club suffered extensive damage by an 18-year-old intoxicated woman because someone gave her alcohol. For that reason, AuBuchon decided to sponsor the FYPG as her President’s Project.

In addition to funding the group, it AuBuchon’s mission to help them get the word out to the public through publicity and word of mouth.

At the meeting, the Fallbrook Woman’s Club presented Ackroyd with a check to be used toward training, Web site, materials or whatever they deem most important, and to affirm support for FYPG’s efforts to save the lives of local youth by educating them on the dangers of drug use and alcohol consumption.

The club will continue to collect monthly donations for the project during the tenure of AuBuchon’s presidency.
