FALLBROOK — Soroptimist International of Fallbrook is now accepting applications for its annual Women’s Opportunity Award.
To be eligible, a woman must be the primary wage earner for her family and attend a vocational skills training program or an undergraduate degree program.
The $500 award can be used to offset costs associated with her efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training such as tuition, books, childcare, carfare or any other education-related expense.
This program, which begins on the club level, was created in 1972 to help women improve their ability to provide for their families. Each year, more than $1 million is provided in cash grants to women in need.
Since the program’s inception in 1972, approximately $15 million in Women’s Opportunity Awards has been disbursed to about 25,000 women throughout the countries served by Soroptimist International of the Americas.
Applications can be obtained by calling Kelly Lucas at (760) 723-4040 or Florie Meyer at (760) 731-3364. Applications must be submitted before December 15.
