Brandon Gallery showcases Paradise Textile Artists

FALLBROOK — Brandon Gallery will showcase “Travels,” a collection of fabric art by the San Diego County-based Paradise Textile Artists, now through November 30.

Unified by the artists’ reliance on textiles and quilting, each item on display in Brandon’s Etcetera Gallery consists of fabric and features beads, paper, paint, dye and even an occasional swizzle stick to represent different interpretations on the travel theme.

Paradise Textile Artists will host a reception on Saturday, November 7, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Participating artists include Kathleen McCabe, an exhibitor at the prestigious 2009 Quilt National Exhibition in Ohio, and Mary Tabar, who showed her work at the 2008 Quilt Visions, a biannual show at the Oceanside Museum of Art.

In October, Barbara Friedman received an award for a travel-related piece at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara.

Fallbrook artist and Brandon member Noreen Ring sews intimate landscapes by hand with meticulous beadwork and vivid twilight colors to create the sensation of travel to lovely and eerie netherworlds.

Lori Anderson recreates tropical foliage from her Mission Hills neighborhood by lavishing fabrics with paint and exuberant machine quilting stitches.

From her travels, Heather Urquhart transports viewers internationally through traditional hand-quilting and vintage textiles juxtaposed with contemporary design and found objects.

Janice Pennington recreates cultures of Central America and Africa with bold ethnic fabrics and primitive hand-stitching.

Fallbrook Brandon Gallery is located at 105 North Main. For more information, visit http://www.fallbrookbrandongallery.org.
