Achard named new president of Rotary, selected Rotarian of Year

FALLBROOK — Steve Achard has been inducted as president of the Fallbrook Village Rotary Club for the 2009-2010 year. In addition, club members have named him Rotarian of the Year. He succeeds Tom Meriwether as president.

Achard has been a member of the club for seven years. In addition to the Village Rotary, he has also served with the Tahoe Douglas Club of Zephyr Cove, NV, and the Minden Rotary Club of Minden, NV.

“It is a great honor to preside over our club’s achievements and programs for the up coming year,” said Achard. “I follow a long line of dedicated and able past presidents. Over the past seven years, our club has raised thousands of dollars for countless community organizations. We do good work and enjoy ourselves in the process.”

A graduate of Stanford University, Achard is a retired County Company Farm Bureau insurance agent. He retired to Fallbrook in 2001 and resides with his wife, Rita. They have five grown children.

Achard served as president-elect last year, and in that capacity served as program chair. He was also co-chair of the successful Hawaiian luau fundraiser. He was awarded 2009 Rotarian of the Year for his diligent and enthusiastic efforts.

He invites anyone who wants to know more about Rotary International, and would like to have an enjoyable time while raising money for the greater Fallbrook community, to contact him at (760) 723-0150 or join the group at the Fallbrook Golf Course dining room any Tuesday at noon.

“Lunch,” Achard said, “is on me – or Tom Meriwether, if he’s not looking!”
