'Toast Day' Nov. 27 at Village Barber Shop

FALLBROOK — ‘Toast Day’ is a holiday originated by Village Barber Shop barbers Lynn Salinas Orcutt and Dianne Dreher (now retired).

To celebrate Toast Day 2009, which will be held Friday, November 27, Dreher will make her annual trip to Fallbrook from her home in Oregon. She will once again do a ‘reunion tour’ alongside Orcutt November 23 through December 6.

Toast Day began when Orcutt and Dreher purchased a Mickey Mouse toaster, which plays the Mickey Mouse theme when the toast pops up.

Clients who attend Toast Day are presented with buttons. Created by Fallbrook 4-H children, the buttons have become “quite collectible,” said Orcutt. “The [shop’s] mailperson, Doris, has seven or eight buttons as of this writing.”

Customers are encouraged to join in the fun, where they will be treated to toast, muffins, bagels, fruit, juices, coffee and tea.

“The best description of Toast Day is a holiday for men, when a man can buy his wife a coffeemaker, garden tractor or other non-personal item and he will still be in her good graces,” said Orcutt, adding that she and Dreher do not recommend those types of purchases for birthdays or Christmas.
