Honorary mayors to support Thanksgiving Walk/Run

FALLBROOK — The honorary mayors of Fallbrook and Bonsall will both be supporting the Thanksgiving Walk/Run to Feed the Hungry in support of the Fallbrook Food Pantry.

Gail Martin, the new honorary mayor of Fallbrook, says she and her family plan to walk in the November 14 event.

Martin is an enthusiastic supporter of many community nonprofits. When she moved to Fallbrook about five years ago, she began working with Connections and was suddenly involved with the chamber of commerce and many other groups.

“I have participated in the Carlsbad 500 annual run, but I have never done a walk for the hungry,” said Martin. “I really care about this community.”

When asked why she ran for honorary mayor, Martin said, “To encourage people to get involved in the community. Since I want others to be involved, I thought it was my duty to be very involved. This walk is going to be a lot a fun and it will benefit all the people of Fallbrook.”

The new honorary mayor of Bonsall, Erica Perko, is a very energetic and committed lady.

Perko grew up in Bonsall, attended local schools and received her college degree at San Diego State University. She and her husband, David, have three children.

Perko has been very involved with the Bonsall Education Foundation and although she has done a walk for muscular sclerosis, she has never been in a walk to feed the hungry.

“It sounds like a great idea and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Perko, adding that she will be joined by her husband and children, mother Nelly Jarrous and brother Michael. “I want to be able to help people.”

The walk/run begins at 9 a.m. at 1042 S. Mission Rd.
