Young Marines honored

CAMP PENDLETON — After eight weeks of rigorous training, five young men from Fallbrook, members of the Young Marines Recruit Class 2-09, officially became Young Marines on October 31 in a graduation ceremony at Camp Del Mar on Camp Pendleton.

Fallbrook’s new Young Marines are Jake Emmendorfer, Hayden Haldi, Ryan Torres, Christopher Torres and Cody Torres.

Three of the young men received awards or promotions as follows: Ryan Torres, academic award for excellence in academics; Hayden Haldi, “Iron Mike” physical fitness award for high score of 499 out of 500 on physical fitness test; Jake Emmendorfer, promotion to Private First Class for demonstrating excellence in the program.

The Young Marines of the Marine Corps League became a national program in 1965 to develop the physical and moral character of its members, ranging in age from 8 to 17. The Young Marine obligation is to set an example for all other youth to follow.
