FALLBROOK – Seventeen current and new members of AAUW gathered at the home of Barbara Ajello to get acquainted, and share the many facets of AAUW. AAUW, American Association of University Women, is a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to assist girls and women in attaining educational scholarships.

New AAUW members, from left, Nafu Tabikh, guest Nettie Parrish, B.J. Maus and Caryn Meriwether learn about the group

These scholarships go to eighth grade girls for a week of science camp, to graduating seniors to assist with college, and to college graduates toward higher education. The funds are raised via their annual garden tour, from donations made to an annual tea, as well as from participants in Mah Jong.

The members also discussed the many ways to donate goods and services in Fallbrook such as through the Angel Shop, Rally for Children, Fallbrook Food Pantry, Toys for Tots and the “Day of Donating” to be held Dec. 13 at Rainbow Oaks Restaurant.

Afghanistan donations for widows and children can be made through AAUW member Nafo Tabikh at (760) 451-8597 or at [email protected].

For more information about AAUW, call Diane Gill, Membership chair, at (760) 414-1957.
