On January 13, well-known arborist and landscape architect Mark Wisniewski conducted a seminar on pruning and tree care to a capacity audience at the Fallbrook Land Conservancy’s Palomares House. The course was presented by Fallbrook Save Our Forest (SOF) an affiliate of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy (FLC). Funding came from the San Diego Board of Supervisors at the recommendation of Supervisor Bill Horn.
The class covered all aspects of properly planting and pruning trees for strength and form. Wisniewski spent considerable time on this because, universally, tree pruning is done improperly. Common undesirable practices include tree “topping,” “lacing” and planting the wrong tree for the location. The right tools and their maintenance were discussed as an important component of tree maintenance.
The second part of the seminar was a “hands-on” opportunity for attendees to practice their newly-acquired pruning skills outdoors at the Palomares House.
