Water Smart Pipeline helps gardeners save water

RANCHO SAN DIEGO – The Water Smart Pipeline at the Water Conservation Garden offers free advice to California gardeners, both novice and experienced.

The Pipeline is answered by Nan Sterman, author of the California Gardener’s Guide, Volume II, and host of the television gardening program, “A Growing Passion.” This help line is an educational service that helps Californians create beautiful, drought-tolerant home gardens that thrive in our arid, Mediterranean climate. There is plenty to talk about, especially in winter.

“Winter is a great time for residents to plant all the low water plants that we’ll enjoy the rest of the year,” said Sterman. “Most people think about planting in spring. That’s fine for the rest of the country but for San Diego, fall and winter are prime planting seasons.”
