The National Weather Service issued a statement at 2:20 p.m. today alerting Fallbrook area residents of a developing Pacific storm that is forecast to hit the area this weekend.
Areas likely to be affected with include the San Diego and Orange County coastal areas, Inland Empire, and area mountain ranges.
Heavy rain is expected by Friday evening and estimated to last through Saturday, producing snow in the mountains.
Weather conditions for Saturday night through Monday are likely to produce additional showers and possible thunderstorms.
The rainfall total from this storm is expected to measure between one and three inches.
Experts say the recent heavy rains in January have left the subsoil near the saturation point, and additional rain could result in excessive runoff or mud and debris in roadways. This is a particularly high risk in areas that have recently suffered firestorms and have little vegetation.
Flooding of area streams and rivers is possible and flood warnings may be issued if deemed necessary.
