Car club members help secret Santa

FALLBROOK – For the second holiday season, the FVCC has participated in the Secret Santa program sponsored by the Camp Pendleton Armed Services YMCA. This program focuses on the military families of junior enlisted men and women (ranks E-5 and below). Each year hundreds of military families apply for the program by submitting a Christmas “wish list,” which is reviewed by YMCA staffers.

In late November, FVCC member Jeanne Cusimano contacted the YMCA to request wish lists for three participating military families. Wish lists provided to the club included family members’ first names, sizes and children’s ages. FVCC members Joan Voigt and Suzanne Le Moine assisted in fulfilling wish lists by shopping, wrapping and delivering the gifts. All gifts were delivered in mid-December to Camp Pendleton so they could be distributed to the families by Christmas.

Organizations, businesses or individual community members can participate in the Secret Santa program by contacting the Armed Services YMCA at Camp Pendleton. Secret Santa was only one of many local groups to benefit from donations from the FVCC during 2009.

The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club has about 90 very active members and meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Fallbrook Women’s Club at 238 West Mission Road, at 7 p.m. There is no admission and everyone is welcome. Generally there is a short business meeting followed by a presentation by a local member on some subject of interest to the members. There is no requirement of ownership of a classic car to join the club – only an appreciation of the culture.
