Local divers and swimmers compete for FAST

FALLBROOK - Fallbrook Area Swim Team (FAST) divers recently competed in the Dive San Diego Junior and Novice Invitational on Jan. 23. Katherine Howlett, 8, competed for the first time, placing 3rd with a score of 77.15 points. Jessica Fagrell, 13, also in her first dive meet, placed 1st with a score of 133.40 points.

Tanner Howlett, 14, placed 1st with a score of 281.85 points while Haylee Jameson, 14, also placed 1st in her event with a score of 263.75 points. Haylee and Tanner also qualified for the AAU National Championships that will be held in the summer.

FAST swimmers also competed in two meets in January. The first was the San Diego Swimming “Q” meet in which swimmers swam to qualify for the San Diego All-star team. Cedric Brown, 12, improved all his times and placed 4th in the 100 back. Sarah Bushnell, 15, improved her times and placed 3rd in the 100 fly and 1st in the 50 free and 200 free.

Victor Camacho, 12, improved his time, as did Toby Fast, 11, Mike Maryn, 16, and Robert Guerra, 13. Sam McDaniels, 14, was the lone FAST swimmer to qualify for the All-star team with top eight finishes in all of his events and a 1st place finish in the 100 free. Sam also helped pace San Diego to a team championship in the tri-meet between San Diego, Central California and Sierra Nevada All-star teams.

FAST is the only complete aquatics program in San Diego that offers swimming, water polo and diving. More information can be obtained at Practices are held at the Fallbrook High School pool.
