RAINBOW – A vehicle fire that occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. this afternoon has caused significant traffic backup on Interstate 15 northbound, extending into Escondido.

Authorities say a motor home became engulfed in flames at I-15 and Rainbow Valley Blvd, and as a result two lanes of the freeway were unusable.

The 22-foot motor home was extensively damaged, requiring a special type of tow truck to remove the vehicle from the roadway.

A Sig Alert was issued for northbound I-15 at the Riverside county line at 4:06 p.m.
