Thief bites store clerk who catches him stealing

A man who was trying to steal magazines from a local grocery store was charged with theft and battery after he bit a store clerk who caught him in the act.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on February 16, Hugo Diz, a 28-year-old male from Rainbow, entered a grocery store located in the 800 block of South Main in Fallbrook and attempted to steal $40 worth of magazines.

Diz was apprehended by a store employee, who he then bit on the arm before the employee restrained him and called 911.

According to Fallbrook Sheriff's substation commander Lt. Phil Brust, Diz was arrested and is currently in the Vista Jail.

Information provided by Vista Jail indicates that Diz has a prior record. His bail has been set at $110,000.
