I-5 shut down both directions while bomb squad disables grenade

SAN CLEMENTE - The San Diego (5) Freeway in San Clemente was shut down in both directions for about two hours today while a bomb squad worked to disable a grenade spotted straddling southbound traffic lanes.

The Orange County sheriff's bomb squad and Camp Pendleton Marines were sent to the scene after the device was found about 11:15 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Barnard, who said it was unclear whether it was live or inert.
