FALLBROOK – With the help of master gardeners Jerry and Lynne Weiss, Live Oak Elementary has had the opportunity to provide students with fresh, organic lettuce and vegetables that were harvested on their very own campus.
Twice a week, Live Oak students and their teachers in the Garden Club tend to the gardens that are located along the north side of campus. Jerry Weiss and his wife, Lynne, have been instrumental in helping them accomplish this amazing task of supplying the school’s food service with homegrown organic lettuce and veggies.
Sandy McGoldrick, director of food services for the Fallbrook Elementary School District, recently helped the school oversee the first servings of its homegrown produce. Several parents and teachers have also volunteered their time to make the garden project successful.
Students at the school are so excited to be eating their harvest and Live Oak Garden Club hopes to continue supplying local produce to the cafeteria for a very long time.
