All invited to 9th Annual Fallbrook Health Fair on April 10

FALLBROOK – This year’s celebration of health will be on Saturday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be held at the La Paloma Elementary School at 300 Heald Lane. All residents of the greater Fallbrook area are invited to attend.

There will be something for everyone. The event features health screenings, entertainment, healthy snacks, demonstrations, interactive games, giveaways and ideas for healthy living at every stage and age of life.

There is no charge for attendance or participation in any of the activities; all are free to the people of the community. The event is sponsored each year by the Fallbrook Healthcare District with the support and volunteers of other public agencies and of many healthcare service provider agencies.

Each booth along the “Pathway to Health” will have activities and information to encourage people to make healthy choices and to live healthy, active lifestyles. And at the end of the pathway there will be opportunity to win a prize in the drawings of completed pathway cards.

There will be music and live on-stage performance by local talent. The rock climbing mountain and the Alpine Slide will be there, and, new this year, Suma wrestling.

Nick Macchione, San Diego County Director of Health and Human Services, in his presentation to the Community Collaborative Breakfast on Jan. 23, pointed out that there are three risk factors - tobacco use, poor diet, lack of physical activity - that contribute to four chronic diseases: heart disease/stroke, Type 2 diabetes, respiratory disease and cancer, which are responsible for over 50 percent of the deaths in San Diego. What is tragic, Macchione pointed out, is that these disease conditions are preventable.

The Take Charge focus of Health Fair 2010 will provide information and increase awareness of preventive measures supporting healthy active lives.
