Neeley motorcycle accident still under investigation

Oceanside Police Sgt. Gabe Jimenez reported today that the motorcycle accident of March 18 that resulted in fatal injuries to Fallbrook business owner Ron Neeley, 52, is still under investigation.

Neeley was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle on State Route 76 just east of Jeffries Ranch Road when he lost control of the bike, was ejected, and sustained what proved to be fatal injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The Fallbrook man was airlifted to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he was placed on life support, which was discontinued less than 24 hours later.

Authorities reported that the accident occurred at 4:59 p.m. amidst heavy traffic.

“What happened was that he was traveling eastbound on SR76 on his motorcycle, during heavy traffic, and was passing stop and go traffic,” said Jimenez. “He lost control of his motorcycle, causing him to fall and he sustained head injuries.”

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said Neeley applied the rear brakes, causing him to be ejected from the bike.

Emergency workers responded to a 911 call about the accident. When medical aid arrived, they airlifted Neeley to Scripps La Jolla hospital.

Jimenez said Neeley was wearing a “beanie-type” helmet at the time. “It’s not a full one that totally encases your head, it is just a shell-type that protects the top,” said Jimenez.

Also known as motorcycle half-helmets, sources report these helmets meet the minimum safety requirement. Industry sources report that half-helmets protect the top of the head, while leaving the face and critical base of the skull exposed, while full-face motorcycle helmets deliver the greatest amount of protection to a rider.

The traffic congestion on State Route 76 at certain times of day is significant, Jimenez confirmed.

“That is a roadway that requires patience because it has a lot of stop and go traffic,” said Jimenez. “It’s a heavily populated state route.”

Neeley was the owner of Ron Neeley Automotive and Ron Neeley Towing in Fallbrook.

Neeley dies from injuries sustained in motorcycle accident

Longtime Fallbrook business owner Ron Neeley, 52, succumbed March 19 to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident the day before.

Authorities said the accident occurred at 4:59 p.m. on State Route 76 at Jeffries Ranch Road in Oceanside amidst heavy traffic.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said, “[Neeley] was traveling eastbound on SR76 on his Harley Davidson motorcycle during heavy traffic when it abruptly came to a stop. [Neeley] applied his rear brake which caused him to lose control and he was ejected from the bike.”

Emergency workers responded to a 911 call about the accident. When medical aid arrived, they airlifted Neeley to Scripps La Jolla hospital.

“He remained on life support until his death March 19,” the Medical Examiner’s Office said, adding that they have not conducted an in-depth examination yet.

Fallbrook business owner succumbs to injuries from accident

An early and unofficial report has been received that longtime Fallbrook business owner Ron Neeley succumbed yesterday to injuries sustained in an accident on Thursday, March 18. The accident is said to have occured in the late afternoon/early evening hours.

Two different sources have said Neeley was riding his motorcycle near State Route 76 and Jeffries Ranch Road in Oceanside when the accident occured that resulted in severe trauma to Neeley's head.

Full details have not yet been made available pertaining to the accident.

Neeley was the owner of Ron Neeley Automotive and Ron Neeley Towing in Fallbrook.
