Cub Scouts invite Boy Scout alumni to Pinewood Derby

This year marks the 100 year anniversary for the Boy Scouts of America and the 56th year of the Pinewood Derby. Pack 739 is welcoming all alumni Boy Scouts to race their Pinewood Derby cars one more time in an open division on its modern track. All rules still apply except there is no rule for when the car was made.

The Pinewood Derby was the brainchild of California Cubmaster Donald Murphy. It arose from his search for an activity that he and his 10 year old son could work on together. The first Pinewood Derby was such a huge success that the Boy Scouts of America adopted the program nationwide the following year.

To enter Pack 739’s Pinewood Derby 2010 open division, there is a suggested donation of $5. Weigh-ins and sign ups for the open division are Friday, March 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. and March 27 from 8 to 10 a.m. On March 27 the first race starts at 9 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran School Gym, 1405 E Fallbrook Street, (760) 723-3500.

For information, contact Matt Barbato, Cubmaster 739, at (760) 208-8682 or [email protected].
