FALLBROOK – Two of the Fallbrook National Junior Basketball (NJB) teams will advance to the national tournament scheduled for March 27 and 28.
The boys All Star team, comprised of fifth and sixth grade students, have been competing against teams of sixth graders. The Fallbrook team took second place in a recent All Star tournament after a two-point overtime win that featured an amazing comeback.
“This group of kids play so well together as a team that every single player scored during the tournament,” said Ken Pilbin, chapter director of Fallbrook NJB. “This is a group of kids that truly love the game of basketball.
The Fallbrook girls’ sixth grade team went into the all star tournament weekend with a one-point loss to Encinitas in the first round and a ten-point loss to Scripps Ranch. On Sunday, they played the same Encinitas team again and came away with a 20-16 victory. The girls finished second place overall in the San Diego Sectional to qualify for the national competition.
“It was an exciting weekend,” said Pilbin.
Fallbrook NJB is a recreational league that is now in its sixth season. The league serves families from Fallbrook, Bonsall, Rainbow and Pala. Boys and girls from first through eighth grades play each winter with registration beginning in September. A summer league will soon be forming along with a weekly clinic that is focused on fundamentals. Visit
