The county’s Planning Commission voted 7-0 March 19 to approve a Major Use Permit for a wireless telecommunication facility in southern Pala.
T-Mobile will mount six panel antennas on a 50-foot fake palm tree, and three equipment cabinets surrounded by a concrete masonry unit wall will also be part of the facility.
Rod and Joyce Guild own a 3.5-acre parcel on Double Canyon Road. The facility itself will utilize 320 square feet on the southeast portion of the property. The facility will be located within an existing avocado grove and thus will not be visible from public roadways, and in the event the portion of the avocado grove used for buffering and screening is cleared or abandoned, the conditions of the Major Use Permit require the presence of at least seven 36-inch box native, fire-resistant, evergreen broadleaf trees.
A generator receptacle will also be enclosed by the concrete block wall, which will be seven feet tall and have a metal roof.
An underground utility trench approximately 171 feet long located within an existing grove road will serve the facility, while a private easement road from Double Canyon Road will provide access to the site.
