FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Girls U19 rugby team won the Fullerton International Rugby Tournament held March 20-21, playing five games over two days and winning them all. The annual tournament attracts teams from Canada, Washington, Wisconsin, and Northern California.

On day two, the Fallbrook girls beat Gleneagle (British Columbia, Canada) 24-10 in the cup semi-final and then beat Fullerton 5-0 in the cup final to take the trophy.

“The girls played really well as a team and this showed in their defensive abilities with only two tries being scored against them,” said the coaches. “They showed confidence in their attacking play scoring 11 tries and kicking two conversions.

Try scorers were Tara Burke, 5; Nicole Bell, 2; Megan Pinson, 1; Lauren Bell, 1; and Sammy Pinson, 1. Jamie Garcia kicked six conversions.

The girls are currently in the middle of their league season and have won all seven games thus far. They have stated that their goal this season is to win the league and represent Southern California in the State Cup and at Nationals in Utah.

The U19 girls won the Southern California high school division earlier this year.

Fallbrook also has a U14 and U16 team which have both been equally successful in their age group divisions accumulating maximum points in all their games so far.

The U19 girls played and beat Gleneagle (Canada) in a friendly game last week at Fallbrook High School. Their next home game is on Saturday, April 24.
