Kids can enter free contests at Avocado Festival

FALLBROOK – Elementary school kids will have the opportunity once again to participate in free contests at this year’s Avocado Festival on Sunday, April 18.

Best Dressed Avocado

Children can enter their specially decorated (real) avocado in the Best Dressed Avocado Contest. Entries should be brought to the CAST parking lot in the 200 block of N. Main between 9 and 10:30 a.m. that morning to register for the contest. Judging begins at 11 a.m. and the winning entry will be decided selected based on originality, creativity, and the use of materials.

Avo 500

The Avo 500 will once again be offered for elementary school age kids who want to build a race car out of a fresh avocado. There are two categories: stock cars and modified cars. Stock cars are made at the event where free avocados and wheels are provided for use. Modified cars are ones that are prepared in advance at home for the race with one’s own choice of equipment. The only stipulation is that the wheelbase of the “race car” cannot exceed eight inches.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Little Miss & Mister Avocado

Girls and boys ages four to eight are eligible to enter the Little Miss & Mister Avocado contest. Youngsters will need to be willing to get up on a stage with Miss Fallbrook and her court and answer a few fun questions and smile for the crowd. This is for local youth only. To enter the Little Miss & Mister Avocado contest, register and check in at the CAST parking lot between 10 and 11 a.m. that morning. The fun begins at 11 a.m. All kids will receive a certificate of participation and a prize.
