Burnett Family Bluegrass Band to appear in Fallbrook April 24

FALLBROOK – On Saturday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m., the Fallbrook Americana Music Series will present the Burnett Family Bluegrass Band in concert at the Mission Theater, 231 N. Main Ave.

The band, based in Flagstaff, Ariz., formally began in 1993. Their first paying job was on Hitching Post Stable wagon rides. They also did local churches, fairs and special occasions, all the while honing their skills.

The father, Brian, plays guitar and has a bluegrass high tenor voice. The mother, Connie, plays bass and acts as emcee. Rachel, now 21, sings with a mature voice beyond her years and plays fiddle. Jess, 18, plays mandolin, fiddle, banjo, guitar and sings; and Ryan 17, makes his mark on banjo. The kids showed their talents early on by singing in the church choir at ages two and three and taking up the fiddle at very early ages.

The family’s first significant break came in 2004 when they won the Telluride band competition. Following this, they were selected by the International Bluegrass Association (IBMA) from a pool of 152 bands to showcase at their convention. They have produced three albums. Their third, “Bend the Wind,” demonstrates the hard driving, fine tuned harmonies and mature understanding of intimate musical detail that has skyrocketed them from simply good to outstanding.

Tickets are $15 for adults; $7 for children ages 7-17 and available at the theater box office and at the door. For more information, call (760) 723-7255.
