FALLBROOK – Ken Quigley of Camp Pendleton’s Environmental Security Office will discuss the Camp Pendleton Buffer Lands program at the next meeting of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy (FLC). The meeting is on Wednesday, April 28, at 5 p.m. at the FLC’s Palomares House, 1815 S. Stage Coach Lane, and is open to the public.
The Buffer Lands program, established in 2003 as part of the National Defense Authorization Act, provides an innovative way for military installations and local partners to address land use and resource challenges that threaten the readiness mission of the Base. The program authorizes the Department of Defense to work with private conservation groups as well as state and local governments to support military readiness by sharing the costs of acquisition from willing sellers of property in the vicinity of military installations. These acquisitions preserve critical buffers and habitat areas near installations and ranges where the military operates, tests, and trains.
