Second magnitude 4.7 earthquake recorded within five days

SAN DIEGO - A magnitude-4.7 earthquake was recorded about 18 miles west southwest of El Centro early today.

The quake struck at 3:55 a.m., according to preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey. Thousands of quakes have been recorded since the 7.2 Easter Sunday quake in Baja California that was felt throughout Southern California.

Magnitude 4.7 earthquake shakes buildings in San Diego

SAN DIEGO - A magnitude-4.7 earthquake shook buildings in downtown San Diego Thursday, about three hours after a magnitude-4.6 earthquake hit.

The first quake struck at 7:22 a.m. and the second at 10:12 a.m.

Both were centered 11 miles southwest of Seeley, 12 miles east southeast of Ocotillo and 17 miles west-southwest of El Centro, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
