Fix 76 and keep Pala a local road!

We who use SR76 on a daily basis know how dangerous the existing road is and want to have it fixed! Thousands of local residents rely on Pala as an east/west local road for emergencies such as an evacuation route in a fire storm. Ask yourself, how many east/west routes exist between 395 and South Mission in Fallbrook? There are only three including Pala Road, East Mission, and a circuitous route using Reche road.

The current Caltrans proposal for revamping the existing SR76 route eliminates the Pala Road option, especially as it relates to an orderly traffic flow from the city in an easterly direction. Without Pala Road as a local service artery, there remain just two east/west routes to serve the 39,000 residents of Fallbrook. This creates a very unsafe condition for Fallbrook, particularly in emergency situations.

I have an idea. Caltran’s east section, Existing Northern Route Alternative eliminates small portions of Pala Road and uses the remainder of Pala Road for side roads to access safely using right turn in and right turn out acceleration and de-acceleration lanes. Does it seem logical to use 60 percent of Pala Road for access to the new “fixed 76?” Why not adjust the design and relocate the entire “fixed 76” slightly south and retain Pala Road as a local road thereby keeping our community safe?
