Purple Foxes visit Village Rotary

FALLBROOK – On April 20, Lt. Col. Robert Boucher presented a program for Fallbrook Village Rotary on the history of the “Purple Foxes” from it’s inception to the present. A Power Point presentation illustrated the types of equipment used over the years, and squadron’s most recent deployment to Iraq.

The original name of the squadron was the “Foxes” but during the Viet Nam conflict almost all the aircrews were wounded, and awarded Purple Hearts. Hence the name “Purple Foxes.”

During its last mission, as the military withdrew forces from Iraq, it was assigned to bring Marines back from forward positions for redeployment in the United States.

Lt. Col. Boucher has flown more than 5,900 mishap free hours, and his personal decoration include, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with V, and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation with gold star.
