Rubber Raft Races return to 4th of July celebration

FALLBROOK – The Rubber Raft Regatta is expected to be one of the highlights again this year at the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance’s July 4th Celebration, held at the Grand Tradition. Teams of four will compete for the title of the fastest rubber raft to row across the Grand Tradition’s heart-shaped lake.

Along with the honor, the winning team, based on elimination heats, will earn up to $2,000 in prize money. Last year, a Fallbrook High School athletic team was narrowly defeated by the team from Major Market after competing against other locally-sponsored groups such as the all women Heyneman’s Hustlers, Fallbrook Village Rotary and many others.

The entry fee to participate in the rubber raft race is $50 per person, four persons per team/boat ($200 per team). Teams may be sponsored by businesses, organizations or individuals. Registration is open now at the Fallbrook Area Visitor Bureau, (760) 451-3282 or Don McDougal, (760) 275-4708. Registration Forms are also available at http://www.fallbrookbeautification.org.

The entry fee will include use of a rubber raft, life jackets and oars. Participants provide the muscles, teamwork and the competitive spirit to win! The winning purse will be based on 50 percent of the entry fee’s collected, with the maximum number of boat entries capped at 20. The competition is open to anyone attending the July 4th celebration. Entries will be accepted on a first come basis, so register early to guarantee a spot.
