Make the correct decision on S. Mission Rd. to I-15 segment

At a meeting on April 26 sponsored by Supervisor Bill Horn, a group of residents met with Allan Kosup (corridor director) and Mark Phelan (project manager - widening of SR76). We were given information on the project, new maps of the alternative choices, as well as their criteria. One of the new maps indicated traffic controls for the existing SR76 expansion as well as the Southern Alternative.

On the existing SR76 - no new signal lights - a right turn in/out only at the intersections of Monserate Hill Rd., Calle De La Vuelta, and Ramona Rd. while the intersections of Star Track Way, Via Monserate, and Sweet Grass Ln. would have unprotected left hand turns as well as right turns. This would be accomplished with a designed speed limit of 60 mph on the newly widened divided road.

Flowerwood Lane would be redirected to Gird Rd. instead of the SR76. This would result in Gird Rd. being the only access to/from Sycamore Ranch in case of evacuation. Obviously if a fire came from the east, there would be no way out!

Southern Alternative - no lights, no blind curves, and no turns. Approximately five miles of relatively straight driving at 55 mph on a four-lane that could be completed without construction turmoil for the three years estimated for completion.

The safety issues alone sorely beg for Caltrans to choose the southern alternative.
