Let's play pickleball

NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY – The North County Picklers invite everyone to join them at the new pickleball courts at Melba Bishop Community Center, 5306 North River Road, Oceanside. “The players have just completed the improvements for eight pickleball courts. We always have extra paddles for the new players!” said Beverly Youngren, San Diego County ambassador for USA Pickleball Association.

Drop-in play is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The center’s fee is $2 per person.

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, ping pong and racquetball. It’s easy to learn and wonderful exercise. “We will be hosting pickleball for the first time in the California State Senior Olympic Games at Poinsettia Park, Carlsbad on June 1-4, 2010,” said Pat Carroll and Dennis Dacey, Pickleball commissioners.
