Osborn scores big at state gymnastics championships

FALLBROOK – Ten year old Daria Osborn received a second place medal for her floor routine, scoring a 9.65 out of a possible 10.0, at the Southern California Level 7 State Gymnastics Championships held in Costa Mesa at the end of March. Top gymnasts from all over Southern California competed in the event. Her total score for all four events: vault, beam, bars and floor was 36.95.

Daria started competing in gymnastics two years ago, at Level 4, at the age of 8.

She began training at SCEGA Gymnastics, a National Team Training Center located in Temecula, shortly thereafter. She competed at Level 5 when she was 9, Level 6 in the fall of 2009 and in Level 7 in January of this year.

In February, Daria was awarded first place for her floor routine (scoring a 9.45) and second place on bars (scoring a 9.5) at the California Classic gymnastics competition in Del Mar where she competed against gymnasts from the U.S. and Canada.

Daria is a fifth grader and straight-A student at Bonsall Elementary school. She hopes to follow in the footsteps of her teammates who have received gymnastics scholarships from top colleges upon graduation from high school.
