Sgt. Adam Perkins killed in Afghanistan

CAMP PENDLETON - Staff Sgt Adam L. Perkins, 27, of Antelope, Calif. died May 17 of multiple traumatic injuries received from an improvised explosive device in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Perkins was an explosive ordinance disposal technician with 1st Explosive Ordinance Disposal Company, 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group.

Perkins first enlisted into the Marine Corps Sept 2001 and deployed three times, twice to Iraq in 2006 and 2008 and once to Afghanistan in 2010.

His awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a combat distinguishing devise, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with a combat distinguishing devise, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal second award, Iraq Campaign Medal with two service stars, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation second award, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one service star.

"As 1st Marine Logistics Group mourns the loss of one of our own, our heartfelt condolences go out to Staff Sgt. Adam Perkins’ friends and family," officials said.
