Fallbrook law enforcement officers recognized as heroes

FALLBROOK – Three San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officers assigned to the Fallbrook Substation were honored last week for risking their own lives to pull a man safely out of a burning home several months ago.

Sgt. Ron McCracken and Deputies Ron Brown and John Taylor were recognized by the Burn Institute as “heroes” at the organization’s 37th annual Spirit of Courage awards banquet. Each year, the organization pays tribute to individuals in the community who have risked their lives in an effort to save another from a burn injury or death by fire.

“These courageous individuals put their own safety aside to help someone they have never met,” said James Floros, Burn Institute executive director. “They are heroes in the truest sense.”

The Fallbrook officers were recognized with others in the county who had accomplished similar fetes. Approximately 500 guests attended the event held in Torrey Pines.
