The California Highway Patrol reports that a big rig carrying a load of gravel overturned on State Route 76 near Calle Del Vuelta (east of River Village Shopping Center) today shortly after 2 p.m. and the recovery operation will likely impact traffic until at least 6 p.m. this evening.

"Right now traffic is inching through the area but officers will have to close the roadway in both directions shortly to remove the big rig," said Sgt. Lew Hall.

Hall said it is unknown at this time what caused the accident, but said the driver of the rig does not appear to have suffered any significant injuries.

"We know it was a solo vehicle accident and that the driver is okay," he said.

During the course of the accident, the big rig overturned, which will require a specialized removal process to upright the vehicle.

In CHP data transmitted from the scene, one officer mentioned concern over a possible gas leak as a result of the wreck.

When the roadway is closed down shortly, westbound traffic will be stopped at Old Highway 395 and eastbound traffic at South Mission Road. Traffic will be detoured during that time.
