I read in disbelief that President Obama would not attend the wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day; instead he abdicated his duties to Vice President Biden.
Obama’s absence sets a very disgraceful precedence; instead Obama chose to speak at a function in Chicago. Should we be surprised? This is typical of Obama. His actions are divisive to the country. My uncles served in World War II, one in the U.S. Air Force and the other in the U.S. Marine Corps. I wonder what their thoughts would be on the President not attending the Arlington ceremony.
I served proudly for 34 years in the U.S. Navy as a field hospital corpsman. I served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the Marines. I wonder what my dead Marines and Sailors would think of Obama not attending the Arlington Cemetery event.
As we patriots celebrate Memorial Day 2010, remember “the debt we owe may be difficult to pay but it is easy to see. To grasp its conspicuous clarity one need only to walk among the graces and pause to give proper thought to even just one life among the many. Read slowly the name, the dates, the place where everything came to an end,” Mark Helprin, Wall Street Journal, Saturday, May 29, 2010.
I pray that President Obama would read Mr. Helprin’s article “On Memorial Day” and not forget all the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for the security of this great country.
