Piano student to learn organ

FALLBROOK – Palomar freshman Mary Beth Collom, a student at Fallbrook’s Laurie Diaz Piano Studio, was recently awarded a scholarship by the American Guild of Organists in conjunction with the Spreckels Organ Society. Of the 27 performers at last month’s auditions, Collom was one of only five pianists to pursue an organ scholarship, and was granted a monetary award towards introductory organ lessons.

Collom and fellow piano student Elena Segarra have also joined the Youth CUE International Chorus for a 10-day tour of Canada. They will be performing concerts at various churches and volunteering their time during the day at a homeless shelter and institutions serving the blind and handicapped.

Collom is auditioning for the music program at Palomar College and studying performance and pedagogy with Laurie Diaz.
