Quilt Guild makes patriotic quilts of love

FALLBROOK – As this year’s Independence Day approached, members of the Fallbrook Quilt Guild gathered at their monthly meeting to put together patriotic quilts for injured marines. If it weren’t for the bright colors, laughter and good cheer, it might have been a sweat shop scene as quilters hunched over their machines sewing and snipping to meet their quota of one finished quilt.

Not having quite enough time to complete the project, members took home their quilts to be completed and then delivered to Camp Pendleton. On a regular basis the Guild turns out charity quilts made by volunteers to be distributed to newborn babies and wounded soldiers.

The next meeting is Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. to hear quilter Sharon Schamber speak to the group and show her work. She will present a two day workshop on Aug. 7 and 8. For more information, contact membership co-chair Cheryl Jeter at (760) 231-7746.
