Nelson legacy makes two stops in Temecula

TEMECULA - Guitarist, singer and songwriter Lukas Nelson and his band Promise of the Real continue to win followers and accolades as they cross North America on tour. The 21-year-old musical artist is the son of American music icon Willie Nelson.

Lukas Nelson started playing guitar at age 11 as a birthday gift for his father and quickly revealed himself as a naturally virtuosic talent.

In his teens, Lukas Nelson led a popular Maui-based band with his drummer and visual artist brother, Micah.

After moving to Los Angeles, he put together Promise of the Real with drummer Anthony LoGerfo (toured with Gwen Stefani, UB40, Jackson Browne, etc.), bass player Corey McCormick (toured with Chris Cornell and Élan), and percussionist Tato Melgar (from 40 Points).

The group’s name reflects their aim of offering music that is genuine and passionate that mixes blues, rock, country, Americana, and even Caribbean rhythms.

“I’m coming from the heart, so we wanted to promise whoever is listening that we will be real,” said Lukas Nelson. “We’re just gonna go out and play a bunch of shows and let people see it.”

Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real will play a few dates in Southern California, with two of those taking place in Temecula.

On Aug. 7, the singer and his band will be at Wiens Family Cellar. Then, Nelson will be off to Solana Beach on Aug. 19 to perform at the Belly Up Tavern. Nelson will then go to Washington, Wyoming, Utah, Ohio, and other states, before he returns to Temecula with his band on Oct. 23 to perform at Quaid Temecula Harley-Davidson.

His last California stop will be in Rancho Cucamonga at Chaffey College Theatre on Nov. 19. The tour ends soon after in Arizona.
