Oceanside girl escapes attempted kidnapping, provides clues leading to arrest

CARLSBAD - A North County man was jailed today for allegedly trying to abduct a 14-year-old Oceanside girl last spring as she was walking home from school.

Detectives arrested George McKesson, 53, outside his Carlsbad apartment and took him to Vista Jail to be booked on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, stalking, possession of methamphetamine and committing a felony while out on bail, according to police.

McKesson, a civilian employee at Camp Pendleton, allegedly drove up alongside the Lincoln Middle School student as she was walking along Oceanside Boulevard near McDonald Street about 2:30 p.m. May 19 and ordered her to get into his car.

When the girl began running away, the would-be abductor steered the four- door sedan onto the roadside, blocking her way, Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata said. The teen managed to get around the car and flee to safety.

The girl was able to provide investigators with a partial license-plate number, and she later identified McKesson as the alleged perpetrator in a photo lineup, the lieutenant said.

The suspect was on bail for a felony narcotics arrest at the time of the kidnap attempt, according to Mata.
