Barbara Jane (Sherman) Brotherton

Barbara Jane (Sherman) Brotherton passed away at home after a two year battle with cancer, August 17, 2010. Born March 18, 1926 in Oak Park, Ill., she attended public school in Westfield, N.J. and earned a master’s degree at Rutgers University.

Barbara was a past president of Newcomers; a pilot in seven Powder Puff Derbies (women’s transcontinental air race) and a founder of the Coyote County chapter of the 99’s. An avid artist, she was a past president of the Fallbrook Art Association and she started the first Questers chapter in Fallbrook.

Barbara is survived by Tom, her husband for almost 64 years and sons Tom, Jr. and Tim, and six grandchildren.

Barbara’s ashes will be placed in a national cemetery. A Celebration of Life in her honor will be at the Hilltop Center in Fallbrook on her 64th wedding day anniversary, Sept. 6, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. All her friends are invited to share their memories of a wonderful lady.
