23-year-old Marine Lance Cpl. Kevin Oratowski killed in combat

SAN DIEGO - Relatives and friends of a 23-year-old Camp Pendleton-based Marine were in mourning today following his combat death this week in Afghanistan.

Lance Cpl. Kevin E. Oratowski of Wheaton, Ill., died in Helmand Province on Wednesday, according to the Department of Defense.

He was a member of the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger offered condolences to Oratowski's loved ones and ordered flags to be flown at half-staff at the state Capitol in his honor.
